Tongue Parts

Simplified, Ultrasound Biofeedback System for Speech Therapy Use

Tongue Parts is a system that transforms complex tongue movements captured by ultrasound into real-time, user-specific visual feedback. Focusing on the challenging sounds /r/ and /l/, we use real-time ultrasound imaging and statistical analysis to track tongue motion and identify correct production targets.

Tongue-Tracking Technology

This project is part of a transdisciplinary research initiative involving Communication Sciences and Disorders, Engineering, Psychology, and Design. The Learning by Design team contributed by conducting co-design sessions with clinicians, developing a user interface for a gamified experience to be used during ultrasound therapy, and proposing a head stabilizer for the ultrasound probe to improve treatment consistency.
